Christian Education and Youth Director - Job Description
Purpose and Overview: Provide, oversee and lead all Christ Hamilton educational and youth ministries; including Sunday school, vacation bible school, confirmation, first communion, youth ministries and adult education with the goal to encourage and grow intergenerational congregational faith formation in fulfillment of the mission of the church. Responsibilities:
Recruit, develop, support and lead the Christian education and Youth committees, volunteers and staff including program directors, teachers and leaders.
Ensure programs and activities are effectively staffed with trained, competent and effective staff and volunteers.
Ensure staff and volunteers have an opportunity to grow and develop as educators and in their faith formation journey.
Coordinate and ensure cross ministry synergy with the Church liturgical calendar; and, other congregational events, programs and ministries.
Work with other ministries to develop a comprehensive Christian education calendar.
Ensure the calendar is used to effectively communicate and coordinate Christian education activities and programs.
Work with the Church’s preschool Program (ARK II) to ensure that students and families grow in their Christian faith.
Provide leadership for building relationships with Synod and the other ecumenical relationships in our community. Additionally forming relationships with other youth groups and area churches. The goal of growing Christ in our Community
The development and/or purchase and use of effective curriculums for Christian education programs to ensure faith formation, biblically based, age appropriate learning that fosters faith formation in the home.
Participate in Church staff meetings and activities that support other ministries of the Church.
Ensure an effective learning environment with appropriate multi-medica support, room set-up for program and activities.
Actively and effectively promote, advocate for, and communicate about Christian education activities and programs to encourage and ensure appropriate congregational support and participation using available resources including newsletters, posters, bulletins, email, written communications and social media.
Support evangelism mission and goals, including assimilation of new church attendees and members into Christian education and spiritual formation ministries of the congregation.
Encourages and assists participation in all facets of the church’s life and work through Christian education programs and activities.
Oversee special programs and activities as appropriate.
Ensure Christian education and Youth budgets, expenditures, and receipts including donations and collections are managed in compliance with financial standards of the church.
Ensures effective administration of Christian education and Youth activities and programs.
Effective records and electronic media organization and storage
Child safety compliance per Synod and Church council guidelines and requirements
Regular office hours
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the church council or Pastor.
Reporting directly to the Pastor.
Qualifications and Characteristics:
A Christian with a strong, demonstrated commitment to following Jesus Christ. A person who is enthusiastic, energetic and creative.
An outgoing personality who is able to engage and connect with others
A leader and a visionary.
Great communication skills
Possess a genuine concern for all people and a capacity to relate with all people in a sensitive and respectful way.
Lutheran church background is preferred but not essential
In compliance with Church safety requirements and with State and Federal compliance requirements.
Competent in the use of computer software and social media platforms
